Imagine driving down a forested country road that suddenly opens up to reveal a glorious view of a 60 kilometer-wide panorama of the Rocky Mountains towering over a wide, lush valley of pristine wetlands and river. This is Wells Landing, a historic riverboat landing used in the late 1800's. Although only 5 kilometers off the main highway, it feels like you are in the middle of the wilderness. This 28.8-acre property is situated at the end-of-the-road and is, above all, private, quiet and secure. The land is surrounded on 3 sides by Crown Land, with miles of trails going into the forest right from your door, providing hours of walking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding or mountain biking. The 4th side consists of the main channel of the Columbia River and its protected Wetlands. There are no neighbors nearby. There is NO other property like it on the Columbia River Wetlands.
Spectacular does not justly describe this four-bedroom log home. Handcrafted of huge Douglas fir logs, the house is custom-designed to take advantage of the hillside overlooking the Columbia River. Large picture windows provide stunning views integrating the natural landscape of river, wetlands and mountains. A spacious open-concept design on the main floor offers a feast for the eyes in every direction, and many unique design features are found throughout the house.
Wells Landing is located in the center of the 180-kilometers long Columbia Wetlands, one of the largest unspoiled wetlands left in North America. Wildsight, a Kootenays environmental organization, describes these wetlands as having "...become almost all that is left of the Pacific flyway, the age-old route traversed by countless migrating birds. Here, after many thousands of miles of flight, waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds and songbirds rest, and replenish, and survive. Other species rely on this unique wetland/grassland ecosystem as well. Elk, deer, moose, wolves, black and grizzly bears, coyotes, mink, river otters and beavers are among the larger mammal species found here." Speaking to local residents and visitors at the Golden Birds and Bears Festival, 2000, internationally renowned Canadian wildlife artist, Robert Bateman, said "You have one of the most precious things on a world scale. It's a fabulous place for wildlife and scenery and the jewel in the crown is the Columbia River Wetlands." And Wells Landing is right in the middle of this magical valley.

...On a personal note,

We, Jan and Ron, arrived at Wells Landing in 1988 to find a diamond in the rough. It took us less than an hour to decide to buy this place! Our passion to build a beautiful home and create lovely landscaped surroundings has been realized over these past seventeen years, and it is now time to pass the torch onto a new steward for this land. Comments in our Guest Book attest to how the spirits of countless Canadian and International visitors have been moved by the precious beauty of this spot. You, too, will be so moved when you arrive at Wells Landing.
